Dr Martin Adupet is 43 years old
A doctor has been charged with murder and remanded to Luzira Prison after an alleged intimate encounter with a nurse in a lodge in a Kampala City suburb.
Dr Martin Adupet, 43, a gynaecologist, was charged before City Hall Chief Magistrate’s Court under Sections 171 and 172 of the Penal Code Act, Cap 128.
Dr Adupe was arrested and detained at Kiira Road Police Station before he was taken to City Hall Magistrate's Court, where he was charged with murder and remanded until March 3. Court documents allege that Dr Adupet, on February 3, at Palm Gardens Bar and Lodges in Komamboga, Kawempe Division in Kampala City, unlawfully killed Cissy Kebirungi, a nurse working at the Neo- Genesis fertility Centre in Bukoto.
Kebirungi was reported to have died as she was being driven to Mulago National Referral Hospital for medical attention after developing breathing complications. Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire told this publication yesterday that a case of sudden death was later reported at Kiira Road Police Station by Dr Adupet.
Police preliminary investigations indicate Dr Adupet and Kebirungi were long-time friends, and arrived at the hangout at about 11.30 am on February 3, where they ate, took alcohol, booked a room at the same premises, got in at 4 pm, and stayed up to 8.30 pm.
“We interrogated Dr Adupet, who said that after being intimate, Kebirungi complained of not feeling well, and was not breathing well.
Adupet put her in his vehicle and drove her to Mulago Hospital for treatment, but she died along the way on Mawanda Road,” the police detective said.
“Adupet delivered the body to Mulago Hospital and was directed to report to the police. He drove to Universal Police Post with the body, and a report was made,” the detective added. Mr. Owoyesigyire said a team of detectives and scene of crime officers documented and collected evidence before they conveyed the body to Kampala City Mortuary in Mulago for a postmortem.
“They retrieved closed-circuit television footage, which showed the deceased entering the bar at around 10.30 am, speaking to the waitresses, sitting and waiting for some time before she ordered a drink,” Mr Owoyesigyire said.
