Drogba receives honourary doctorate for off-field contributions

High profile footballers live a fast and furious life on and off the pitch which life earns them lots of fame and money.

After life on the pitch, many have gone on to pursue other businesses whiles others have also turned to education.

Current Liberian president George Weah returned to school after hanging his boots, same is with former Cameroonian international Samuel Eto'o Fils.

Over the Ivory Coast, former national team captain, Didier Drogba, did not exactly go back to the class but he was awarded an honourary doctorate degree by a local university.

"The latest Docteur Honoris Causa of the Network of African Universities of Sciences and Technologies Dr DROGBA #RUSTA" the former Chelsea legend posted on social media.

The post was accompanied with pictures of the player in academic gown and holding his certificate.

Drogba according to the university was deserving of the award in recognition of his contributions to nation-building and restoration of peace in his country.

The 43-year-old in the company of his mother Clotilde Drogba received the degree in person at the university premises.

The two-time African Footballer of the Year was honoured for his charitable work and his role in bringing stability to the West African country.
