Ethiopia closes its borders

Ethiopia has closed its borders after the number of confirmed Coronavirus cases rose to 11.

It is the latest measure Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s office announced in a bid to tackle the virus.

The military would ensure that vehicles do not cross the border, except those bringing in goods.

The security forces would also the ban on large gatherings, announced earlier.

The government had been criticized for not adhering to the ban by continuing to hold meetings and training sessions in crowded halls.

Prime Minister Abiy’s administration also announced the allocation of 5 billion birr ($150m; £129m) for efforts to curb the spread of the virus.
