Ghana’s Harriet Nartey to host YAWC 2024 in Abuja

Ace Ghanaian broadcaster and media personality, Harriet Nartey, will host this year’s edition of the Young African Women Congress (YAWC) 2024, organizers have announced.

The event will take place between October 27 and 31 in Abuja, Nigeria. Over 1,500 participants, mainly young African women from across the continent and the diaspora, are expected to attend.

As an astute journalist and communications expert, Ms. Nartey is expected to bring her expertise and knowledge to bear in moderating the event. Other prominent leaders in various fields, including politics, business, commerce, academia, etc., will also be in attendance, and some will deliver speeches.

Being a successful young African woman herself, she is also expected to inspire participants through her story and professional life.

About YAWC

The Young African Women Congress (YAWC) is an annual gathering of young women from across the continent and in the diaspora, where they undergo series of training, coaching and mentoring.

The objective of the Congress is to among others, equip the next generation of African women leaders with the relevant skills needed to succeed in today’s fast-paced global scene.

Organized by the YAWC Network, the event also has as part of its core mandate, the mobilisation of women from the grassroots level for leadership and development through advocacy, training and projects.

This year’s edition is being held under the theme: “Enhancing Women’s Economic Empowerment Through Innovation and Technology.”

About Harriet Nartey
A broadcast journalist, Harriet Nartey, selected to host this year’s Congress, is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Diplomatic Affairs and Media Communications Ltd, organizers of the maiden Diplomatic Honours awards ceremony held in Accra in September this year.

As a journalist, she is the Dean of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Press Corps, and also the anchor of ‘Diplomatic Affairs’, a TV programme she founded, with the goal of shedding light on diplomacy around the world while projecting Ghana’s bilateral and multilateral relations with other nations.

To have made appearances on the show is a tall list of prominent African leaders and experts including H.E Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, former President of Liberia; Mr. Irchad Ramiandrasoa Razaaly, EU Ambassador to Ghana; Mr. Abdourahamane Diallo, Representative of UNESCO to Ghana and H.E. Bankole Adeoye, Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, African Union Commission.

Some of her success stories in the media industry include successfully launching ‘A night with the Diplomats’ soiree in 2021 – the first of its kind – which saw a significant number of diplomats and foreign service officers in Ghana in attendance.

She also successfully introduced and organised the maiden edition of the Diplomatic Honours. This awards ceremony identifies and acknowledges exceptional diplomats and foreign service officers, both active and retired, whose contributions have impacted society for the greater good of humanity.

Ms. Nartey holds a Master of Arts Degree in International Relations and Diplomacy from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA); and also a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Development Communications from the African University College of Communication (AUCC) in Accra among several other professional certificates.
