Egypt has restored and reopened a synagogue in Alexandria that fell into disrepair.

The renovation of the Eliyahu Hanavi synagogue is reported to have cost some $4m (£3m).

The current building was constructed in the middle of the 19th Century, but the original synagogue had existed for hundreds of years.

Alexandria was once home to tens of thousands of Jews - but only a handful now remain.
