President of the United States, Donald Trump, has once again expressed outrage over the alleged mass killings of Christians in Nigeria, describing the situation as “Christian genocide.”

According to Trump, these acts have been ongoing for some time, but he has now brought the issue to the attention of the global audience.

He criticised the aid provided by the US government to Nigeria, arguing that Nigerian authorities have not taken decisive action to curb the violence, which has resulted in the loss of numerous lives.

Nigeria rejects claims of Christian genocide as Trump mulls military action

In an interview with Fox News, President Trump slammed some American media outlets for not reporting on the matter.

“I think Nigeria is a disgrace, the whole thing is a disgrace. They are killing people by the thousands. It is a genocide, and I am really angry about it. And we pay, you know, we give a lot of subsidy to Nigeria. They are very ineffective. They are killing Christians at will.

"And you know, until I got involved two weeks ago, nobody even talked about it. The New York Times does not write stories about it,” he said.

Recently, a viral video showed worshippers fleeing a church in Nigeria after gunshots were fired inside the auditorium.

Meanwhile, Nigeria has indicated that it would welcome assistance from the US in combating armed groups, provided its territorial integrity is respected, as President Trump continues to threaten military action over what he claims is the persecution of Christians.

Nigeria, with a population of over 200 million, is split between a mostly Muslim north and a predominantly Christian south. For more than 15 years, armed groups have been fighting mainly in the northeast.
