A new documentary podcast chronicling the growing star power of Ugandan pop star, activist and politician, Bobi Wine will debut on Spotify today.
Titled ‘The Messenger,’ the podcast will see host, American-Sudanese rapper Bas tell the story of Wine’s life from growing up in the slum, and his ongoing fight to end the decades-old presidency of Yoweri Museveni.
It will also include interviews and music of the leader of ‘Our People, Our Power’ movement (also known as the People Power Movement. )
The movement is one of the main opposition parties in the East African country contesting the 2021 General elections set to held on January 14.
Wine’s challenge of Museveni has seen him face the wrath of government institutions including the police and military in the country.
Born Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, Wine is currently the member of parliament for Kyandondo County East constituency in the Central Region of Uganda.
He grew up in the Kamwookya slum in the northeastern part of Kampala, the capital city of the country.
Wine graduated with a diploma in music, dance, and drama from Uganda’s Makerere University in 2003.
In 2016, he returned to university to study law at the International University of East Africa (IUEA), where he got in contact with his then-lecturer David Lewis Lubongoya, who has since become chief executive secretary of the People Power, Our Power movement.
‘The Messenger’ is produced by Dreamville Studios, founded by American rapper, J. Cole, who also serves as an executive producer.
