Zamfara State is located in northwestern Nigeria
Local media outlets in Nigeria are reporting the mass abduction of girls from a school in the north-western state of Zamfara.
Gunmen are said to have abducted hundreds of girls from a boarding secondary school in the early hours of Friday in the town of Jangebe.
A parent and a teacher who was in the school during the attack told the BBC that more than 300 students are believed to have been kidnapped.
Police in Zamfara state have yet to comment.
This development comes on the back of recent mass kidnapping cases in the region. Earlier this year, a boys boarding school in the town of Kangara was attacked leading to mass abduction, but all hostages were released.
The most recent one was in Kagara in Niger State, the hostages in that case have yet to be freed.
