The Democratic Republic of Congo's mineral-rich province of Haut-Katanga has started a 24-hour lockdown intended to help the authorities trace people who've come into contact with a Covid-19 patient who tested positive last Friday.

The 58-year-old male patient arrived in the country last week and is thought to have travelled from Kenya via Tanzania and Zambia, before entering through Kasumbalesa city in the south-east.

Kasumbalesa city will go under lockdown on Wednesday.

The country has so far confirmed 471 coronavirus cases, 30 of whom have died.

The virus has spread to seven out of 26 provinces, the latest being Kongo Central province which confirmed its first cases on Monday.
