The President of Nigeria, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) on Tuesday mourned with the people of Taraba State over the death of a former Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Aisha Alhassan.

In a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, Buhari said Alhassan’s death left a gaping void in Nigerian politics.

The President was represented by a delegation led by the Minister of State, Works and Housing, Abubakar Aliyu.

Aliyu extended Buhari’s heartfelt condolence to her bereaved father, Abubakar Ibrahim, the Emir of Muri, Abbas Tafida and the Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku.

He said, “We lost a great leader with an indomitable spirit with people, especially the womenfolk at her heart. The late Aisha Alhassan was strong, bold and people-oriented.”

He, therefore, prayed to Allah to repose her soul.

Speaking on behalf of the family, a brother of the deceased, Abdulaziz Ibrahim, thanked the President for entrusting their sister with the office of minister of Women Affairs in his first tenure.
