The number of coronavirus fatalities in Nigeria surpassed 100 on Wednesday, The PUNCH reports.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control made this known in its daily update on its website.
It said 195 new cases and five deaths were recorded in Nigeria on Wednesday, May 6, bringing the total reported infections to 3145 and the total deaths to 103.
“Till date, 3145 cases have been confirmed, 534 cases have been discharged and 103 deaths have been recorded in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory,” it stated.
Based on the Centre’s chart, Lagos State has 1308 total cases with 30 deaths but 358 recoveries, the highest in the country.
Kano State followed with 427 cases, six recoveries and 13 attendant deaths while Borno State has reported 116 infections with 14 resultant deaths and zero recoveries.
Katsina State has recorded 95 cases, eight discharged patients and eight deaths while Sokoto State has confirmed 85 cases with eight deaths and one recovery.
Others with four or less recorded COVID-19 deaths include Abuja as well as Ogun, Kaduna, Edo, Oyo, Zamfara, Jigawa, Osun, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Yobe, Ekiti and Nasarawa States.
The NCDC said a total of 21,208 samples have been tested so far, out of which 3,145 positive cases were recorded.
It, however, said 534 patients have been discharged across the country upon treatment and recovery leaving 2,508 active cases in Nigeria.
