Nigerian High Commission disowns publication on Labone robbery suspect

The High Commission of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Accra has disowned a publication circulating in the media purporting to convey its position on the reported arrest of a Nigerian national, Augustine Okechukwu Maazi, in connection with an attempted robbery incident at Labone in Accra.

In a press statement dated August 14, 2026, the High Commission said it had taken note of the publication, which allegedly linked Maazi to the incident that occurred on August 13, 2026.

The Mission clarified that the publication was “neither issued nor authorised or endorsed by the High Commission and, therefore, should not be regarded as its official position.”

The High Commission also reaffirmed its confidence in the Ghana Police Service and its ability to maintain the highest standards of professionalism in the discharge of its duties.

It urged members of the public, the media and other relevant stakeholders to “disregard any publication attributed to the Mission unless it has been formally issued through its recognised official channels.”

The clarification follows reports surrounding an attempted robbery at Labone where police officers reportedly engaged suspected armed robbers.

The Nigerian High Commission said its statement was intended to set the record straight and prevent the unauthorised publication from being misconstrued as an official communication from the Mission.
