The Nigerian High Commission in Ghana has pledged its support for this year’s edition of the Young African Women Congress (YAWC) Annual Global Convocation, which is scheduled to take place in Abuja – the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria – between October 27 and 31.

In the early hours of Tuesday, a delegation from the YAWC Network, led by its Founder and Executive Chairperson, Mr. Daniel Osei Tuffuor, paid a courtesy call to the office of the High Commissioner in Accra to officially notify him of the event and to explore more opportunities for mutually beneficial collaborations.

Mr. Daniel Osei Tuffuor, in his remarks to the High Commissioner, His Excellency Dayo Adeoye who received them warmly, emphasized that Nigeria was carefully selected as the host for this year’s event due to the impact of its female population on the country and on the continent as a whole.

“Hosting the event in Nigeria would be a testament to the crucial role the country plays in promoting shared values and equal rights, especially in championing the cause of women on the African continent”, he said.

Mr. Daniel Osei Tuffuor was in the company of the Director of International Relations and Diplomacy for the Network, Ms. Harriet Nartey as well as Ms. Matilda Hammond, President of YAWC Network, Ghana Chapter.

On his part, the High Commissioner of Nigeria to Ghana, His Excellency Dayo Adeoye, lauded the team for the initiative and expressed his delight at the choice of Nigeria as the host for the programme this year.

He stressed that the government of Nigeria, recognizing the indispensable role women play in the country’s socio-economic and political life, supports women empowerment by deliberately creating opportunities for women in various sectors of development including in government.

“We have a considerable number of women in cabinet Ministerial positions”, he boasted.

He went on to assure the team of his support in harnessing the needed resources to ensure the success of the event.
