The Ogun Day Festival 2024, celebrated by Ogun State indigenes in Ghana, was held on October 27 in Kumasi, marking a vibrant display of cultural pride and unity among the diaspora community.
This significant occasion was graced by distinguished guests from both Nigeria and Ghana, underscoring the importance of preserving cultural heritage across borders.
The highlight of the event was a special address by the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, H.E. Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, ably represented by the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor of Ogun State, Hon. Kola Salako Ramon. In her speech, she urged Ogun indigenes in the diaspora to remain united and continue promoting the uniqueness of Ogun State as the gateway to Nigeria.
She commended the developmental strides of H.E. Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Executive Governor of Ogun State, which reflect the progressive leadership Ogun State is known for.
The event was attended by notable dignitaries from both Nigeria and Ghana, further underscoring the cultural and diplomatic bridge between the two nations. Among the esteemed guests were Prof. Ayodeji Agboola, Vice Chancellor of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU); His Royal Majesty Oba Alaketu; His Royal Majesty Oba Salami Saka, represented by Otunba Suleimon; His Royal Majesty Oba Mohammed Alao from Kumasi; Alhaji Babatunde Azeez, President of the Yoruba Community in Ghana; Elder Ayokanmi Ogunremi, President of Osun Indigene in Ghana; and Dr. Albert Asaolu, President of the ANC.
In his remarks, the President of the Ogun Indigene Forum (OIF), Hon. Bola Akinsanya, expressed deep gratitude to the members of the executive council, planning committee, Board of Trustees, Council of Elders, and the entire community for their unwavering trust and support. He pledged to honor this responsibility by enhancing community services, especially in the healthcare sector in Ghana. Hon. Akinsanya highlighted the recent borehole project commissioned in Nigeria, which reflects OIF’s commitment to serving its communities both in the homeland and abroad.
The festival also showcased a variety of traditional performances, including the Eyo and Ewe dances, drama, and other displays of Ogun cultural heritage. The event culminated in a special moment when the Deputy Governor was honored with an Award of Excellence, recognizing her as a distinguished woman in politics whose leadership exemplifies dedication and excellence.
The Ogun Day Festival 2024 not only celebrated cultural pride but also strengthened the bonds between Ogun indigenes in Ghana and their homeland, fostering unity and a shared vision for progress.
