One of the first tasks Tanzania's new president Samia Suluhu Hassan undertook was to visit the spouse of her former boss, John Pombe Magufuli.
President Suluhu Hassan visited the late Magufuli's wife, Janet; to express her condolence and pray for the former president whose death was announced in mid-week.
In pictures shared on social media, Suluhu is seen openly expressing her condolence to the widow and joining in saying a prayer.
The official government position is that Magufuli died of heart complications in a Dar es Salaam hospital even though an exiled opposition leader insists he died of coronavirus.
Suluhu was sworn into office as substantive president as stipulated by the constitution of the country. She will propose a vice-president to the ruling party for subsequent appointment.
She became the country's sixth president making history as its first female president and the first in East Africa.
As 10th vice-president, she made history back in 2015 when she became the first woman to hold the post.
