Sierra Leone receives donation of 200,000 China-made vaccine doses

Sierra Leone is the latest African country to receive coronavirus vaccine donation from the Chinese government.

A consignment of vaccines from manufacturer, Sinopharm, arrived at the Lungi Airport today, Thursday 25th February and was received by a high-powered government delegation.

Spokesman for the COVID-19 Task Force (NaCOVERC), Solomon Jamiru, had confirmed to the media that the total number of donated doses were 200,000. It also includes 201,600 pieces of disposable needles and syringes.

Government is yet to announce a concrete roll-out plan for persons likely to receive shots. Most African countries have prioritized health workers, frontline security officials, persons with underlying health conditions etc.

The Sinopharm vaccines are becoming increasingly popular among African countries. Deliveries have been made in Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea. In Senegal, the consignment delivered was purchased by Dakar.
