At least three soldiers have been killed in a fight between the Nigerian army and suspected Islamist militants in a garrison town in Borno state in north-eastern Nigeria.
The gunmen also destroyed at least 750 homes in Monguno, the Reuters news agency reports.
It is not clear who is behind the attack, but for the last decade the militant Islamist group Boko Haram, along with a splinter faction the Islamic State West Africa Province, has waged a campaign of violence in the north-east.
