The City of Cape Town says they have suspended officers who were seen on video dragging a naked man out of his shack.

In the video, circulating on online media platforms, law enforcement officers are seen pulling the naked man out of a corrugated iron shack.

He then dashes back into the shack before it is brought down with the man still inside.

The Mayor of Cape Town welcomed the suspension of the officers as investigations continue into the issue go on.

South Africa's minister for human settlements, water and sanitation Lindiwe Sisulu condemned the incident which she termed as "distasteful".

"While we are yet to be appraised of the exact details of what led to what we have seen on various media platforms, we wish to condemn with the strongest terms an act, which sought to degrade an individual like what we have witnessed.

"The act is inhumane and has no place in our democratic South Africa," she said
