In an escalating power struggle between Sudan's army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the country's army chief, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, has replaced two state governors, according to state-run news agency Suna.

The capital, Khartoum, and other areas are witnessing intensified fighting between the two factions who seized power in a coup in October 2021.

Governor Fadlallah Mohamed Ali Al-Tom of North Kordofan state and Governor Al-Alim Ibrahim Al-Nour of Sennar state were dismissed by Gen Burhan, with caretaker governors appointed in their place. No specific reason was provided for their dismissal.

While fierce battles have erupted in parts of North Kordofan, Sennar state has remained relatively unaffected by the conflict.

Since the conflict began on April 15, at least 883 civilians have lost their lives, and over 3,800 others have been wounded. The situation remains volatile as the power struggle between the army and the RSF continues.
