A lecturer based in Bauchi has lamented the current economic situation in the country saying it has halted his plans to go for a second wife and expand his family.

The unidentified lecturer who spoke in an interview on Channels TV on Wednesday, January 10 said the economic meltdown is affecting everyone from top to bottom.

Citing an example, he said the 50,000 naira fuel which he often uses for more than two weeks has become insufficient. He added that he can't maintain that lifestyle with the salary he earns as a lecturer.

"I am forced to put my car aside because of the economic situation. From top to bottom, everyone is feeling it. The price of food and commodities is skyrocketing and has called for what economists call a scale of preference," he said.

He continued: "Usually, I used to fill my tank and it would take me two weeks to go from my place of work to other places but now with 50 thousand naira fuel, I can't do what I used to do before with a lecturer's salary."

"I am a family of three with a wive who intend to go for more but even my intentions to go for more wives is now under reconsideration because of the economic situation."
