All Ugandans have been banned from travelling to the countries most affected by coronavirus.
In an address to the nation, President Yoweri Museveni also said that Ugandans returning to the country would be quarantined at a medical facility for two weeks where they would have to meet their own daily expenses for things such as food and water.
All education institutions are to be closed from Friday.
Churches and mosques are to be shut for a month and restrictions have also been imposed on public gatherings, weddings and funerals.
There are currently no confirmed cases in Uganda - a country which has witnessed several outbreaks of the deadly Ebola virus in the past.
