Zimababwe president thanks China for donation of rifles, pistols, other military supplies

Emmerson Mnangagwa, president of Zimbabwe on Wednesday, December 13, 2023; led a government delegation to take delivery of a donation of military hardware from China.

The state-run Herald newspaper reported that the equipment included armoured fighting vehicles, personnel carriers, ambulances, motorised water purifiers, patrol boats, minibuses, sniper rifles, machine guns and hand pistols.

In a post on his official Twitter (now X) handle, the president shared photos with the caption: "Today, we received military equipment from the People's Republic of China.

"This is a result of the unpararelled strategic partnership that exists between Zimbabwe and China. I express gratitude to China for their generosity and our ongoing relationship."

The event took place in Harare, the capital of the southern African country.

China-Zimbabwe cooperation has been on a high as with the majority of countries south of the Sahara.

A significant Chinese investment in the country is the 200-seater Parliament which was built as a gift from the Chinese government.
