The Kano State Police Command has begun an investigation into the killing of a 35-year-old woman and her six children at the Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters area of the state.

Sunday PUNCH gathered that the victims and one other person were killed at their residence on Saturday by hoodlums.

The incident has thrown the Dorayi Chiranchi community into mourning, as residents called for improved security and swift action to prevent a recurrence.

The assailants reportedly broke into the house and attacked the victims with dangerous weapons.

Confirming the incident in a statement on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the command received a distress call at about 12:10 p.m. on Saturday, reporting an attack on the household of one Haruna Bashir.

He said the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, immediately mobilised a team of officers to the scene, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Lawal Mani.

According to the police, the victims were evacuated to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where medical personnel confirmed them dead. “The bodies were rushed to the hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival,” Kiyawa said.

He added that the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, Wada Jarma, had been directed to lead an investigation to identify and arrest those responsible for the attack.

The command expressed condolences to the bereaved family, residents of Dorayi Chiranchi, and the people of Kano State, assuring that efforts were underway to bring the perpetrators to justice.
