British-Ghanaian lawyer Bianca Akweley Clinton has been named African Legal Icon at the 2026 African Heritage Awards held on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra.

The event brought together government officials, business leaders, and members of the diplomatic community, and was attended by President John Dramani Mahama.

Clinton, a partner at Clinton Consultancy, was recognised for her contributions to corporate governance, financial law, and institutional reform across Africa and beyond.

A dual-qualified solicitor and barrister, she has over 20 years of legal experience spanning Africa, the United Kingdom, and Europe. She was called to the Bar in 2005 and later became the first female Vice President of the Ghana School of Law, elected by her peers.

Her professional career includes senior legal roles at ProCredit Ghana and Access Bank, where she led legal and compliance functions during key periods of growth.

She also served as Legal Manager at PwC Switzerland, gaining experience in global regulatory frameworks.

Clinton has also worked with the World Bank Group as a Technical Consultant, advising on governance and regulatory reforms across the ECOWAS region.

In addition to her legal career, she is an entrepreneur. Her venture, Raindrops on Petals, was selected for the Stanford University Aspire Seed Program.

The African Heritage Awards recognise individuals contributing to Africa’s development across various sectors. Organisers say Clinton’s award reflects her impact on legal practice, leadership, and cross-border collaboration.

She currently serves as a partner at Clinton Consultancy Ltd, a pan-African law and strategy firm operating in Ghana and the United Kingdom, specialising in commercial litigation, maritime advisory, investor relocation, and medical negligence.

Clinton is also known for her advocacy in mentorship, gender equity, and ethical leadership within the legal profession.
