Police are investigating the drowning of a man whose body was discovered in a hotel swimming pool in Likoni, Mombasa County. The body was found by technicians conducting routine inspections at the facility on April 26.

According to police, the body was retrieved from the bottom of the pool, indicating the incident had occurred earlier.

The man was not immediately identified. The body, which had no visible injuries, was moved to a mortuary pending identification and a post-mortem examination.

Police indicated he is believed to have been a customer at the facility.

In a separate incident in Kaimosi, Nandi County, a 23-year-old man, Bramwel Musalia, drowned in River Yala during a swimming outing. Police and witnesses said he had been in the company of friends when the incident occurred on April 26.

Local divers later retrieved the body, which was taken to a mortuary for autopsy and other procedures.

Meanwhile, in the Ruai area of Nairobi, the body of an unidentified man was found floating in the Nairobi River. Police officers who visited the scene on Saturday said the body appeared to have been swept to the area. It was moved to a mortuary pending identification and further procedures.

In Kakamega County, another drowning incident was reported in Mumias West Sub-County, where a young boy lost his life in a water-related accident.

Police said the incident occurred on April 25, 2026, at around 4:30 p.m. With the assistance of neighbours, the body was retrieved approximately 50 metres from the point where the drowning is believed to have occurred.

Officers later visited the scene and documented it as part of ongoing investigations. The body was moved to St Mary’s Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Police say drowning is increasingly being reported as a cause of death in several parts of the country, with many incidents linked to flooding in various areas. Authorities indicated that up to 140 people have died in similar cases over the past four months.

In a separate development, a 35-year-old man died following the collapse of a mining tunnel in Siaya County. Police said the incident occurred on April 25, 2026, at around 3:30 p.m. in Nyandiwa B Village within Gem Yala Sub-County.

Two men were reported to have been trapped inside the tunnel after it caved in. Police officers, assisted by members of the public, responded to the scene and retrieved the body of one victim, identified as Isaiah Owiti, 35, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second individual was rescued while unconscious and taken to Rabour Hospital for treatment, where he was reported to be in stable condition.

The scene was processed by investigators before the body of the deceased was moved to Rabour Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Authorities have launched investigations into the incident. Such occurrences have been reported at gold mining sites in the region, amid continued calls for improved safety measures.

Several miners have died in recent months following the collapse of such sites. Officials say many locations lack adequate safety equipment to protect those working there.

The government has been conducting safety awareness campaigns in the mining areas, although officials note that some miners continue to operate in the sites despite the associated risks.
