He was sent by his father to deliver cement to a nearby site but never returned home
Police are investigating an incident in which an 18-year-old student died following a suspected electrocution at a construction site in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County.
According to police, the incident occurred on April 26, 2026, at about 11:30 a.m. in the Olerai area within Ongata Rongai Township.
The deceased, identified as Nelson Ochieng, was a Form Four student at Njiru Secondary School.
He had reportedly been sent by his father to deliver cement to a store at a nearby construction site but did not return home.
Concerned by the delay, a relative went to check on him and found him lying unconscious at the site.
An alarm was raised, and with the help of construction workers, the student was rushed to Wanaichi Private Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police officers visited both the scene and the hospital and confirmed the incident.
Preliminary observations indicated that the body had visible injuries on the right ankle and upper right arm.
Officers also noted exposed live electric cables at the construction site, which are believed to have contributed to the suspected electrocution.
The body was later moved to Ongata Rongai Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing. Police say such cases have previously been linked to unsafe electrical connections and unqualified personnel handling installations.
In a separate incident, a 22-year-old man died after drowning in a well in Kivoloini Village, Kathiani Sub-County, Machakos County.
According to police, the incident occurred on April 26, 2026, at about 12:00 p.m. and was reported the following day.
The deceased, identified as James Mutuku Muli, was reportedly fetching water for domestic use when the incident occurred.
Police officers visited the scene and found that the body had already been retrieved from the well.
According to the deceased’s father, his son had been living with epilepsy. It is suspected he may have experienced a seizure and fallen into the well while drawing water.
The body was discovered by a relative who had also gone to fetch water from the same well. Efforts by local residents to rescue him were unsuccessful.
The scene was processed and documented by investigators, and the body was moved to Machakos Funeral Home mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police have opened an inquest file as investigations into the incident continue, officials said on Wednesday.
