The Jospong Group of Companies (JGC) has entered into a partnership with Belgian clean energy technology firm VYNCKE to explore waste-to-energy solutions across Africa. The agreement is aimed at supporting improved waste management and renewable energy development on the continent.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on May 6, 2026, by the Executive Director of JGC’s Waste Processing Division, Haidar Said, on behalf of the company, and VYNCKE Business Development Manager Jef Mestdagh. The signing took place at IFAT in Munich and was witnessed by VYNCKE CEO Peter Vyncke.

The partnership is expected to facilitate the exploration and development of waste-to-energy projects tailored to African conditions, including waste composition, regulatory frameworks, and market realities.

Under the agreement, JGC will contribute its experience in waste management and sanitation services, while VYNCKE will provide technical expertise in energy recovery systems and related infrastructure.

The collaboration will focus on identifying project opportunities, conducting feasibility studies, engaging stakeholders, and supporting the development of waste-to-energy systems in selected African markets.

The initiative also includes consideration of technologies such as landfill gas capture and thermal energy systems to reduce emissions and improve waste processing efficiency.

Both organisations say the partnership reflects growing interest in alternative approaches to waste management in rapidly urbanising African cities, where landfill pressure and energy demand continue to rise.

JGC operates in several African countries, including Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe, through its waste management and environmental services operations. VYNCKE is an engineering company specialising in industrial energy systems.

The agreement is expected to progress through further technical assessments and stakeholder engagements before project implementation phases are determined.
