The Pan Africa AU Agenda 2063 Office, in collaboration with the International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA) Ghana, hosted the Africa Day Celebration Leadership Summit on May 25, 2026, in Accra under the theme: “Assuring Sustainable Water, Science and Technology, Peace and Security for Development.”
The summit brought together diplomats, government officials, academics and civil society leaders to mark the 63rd anniversary of the Organisation of African Unity/African Union and to align Ghana’s contributions with the AU’s Agenda 2063 vision.
Theme-Driven Dialogue: Discussions centered on how sustainable water management, investment in science and technology, and strengthened peace and security frameworks are critical to Africa’s development and self-reliance. Speakers stressed that without these pillars, Agenda 2063’s goals cannot be realized.
Leadership and Policy Focus: Amb Dr Samuel Ben Owusu, Head of Missions for Pan Africa AU Agenda 2063, chaired the summit. The session advanced the Accra Declaration and mapped out policy recommendations for Ghana’s role in continental integration and peace advocacy.
Distinguished Guests: The event was graced by Prof. Lord Mensah of local government service, Justice Amevor, Deputy Commissioner of Immigration, and Prof Wazi Apoh of the University of ghana among others. Organizers acknowledged their contributions as pivotal to shaping practical solutions for the region.
IAWPA Ghana highlighted the role of youth, civil society, and peace advocates in translating policy into action, particularly in the areas of water security, technological innovation and conflict prevention.
The summit concluded with the inauguration of a working group tasked with following up on the Accra Declaration and coordinating actionable recommendations on water, science, technology, peace, and security for submission to the AU’s next continental review.
In his closing remarks, Amb Dr Owusu urged stakeholders to move from dialogue to implementation, stating that “Africa’s future depends on securing the resources and stability that allow science, innovation, and peace to drive development.”
