The African Property Awards are expanding their reach into the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and the Caribbean as interest in Africa’s real estate sector continues to grow.
Africa’s real estate market is valued at more than $17 trillion and is projected to grow at an annual rate of 5.6 percent through 2029, according to figures cited by the Awards.
The expansion is aimed at helping the continent tap into the global real estate market, attract greater investment and strengthen the sector through increased international exposure.
It is also expected to strengthen connections between Africa’s property sector and investors, professionals and members of the diaspora in the four regions.
United States
In the United States, the expansion is focused on creating greater visibility for Africa’s housing and commercial property sectors.
US-based investors reportedly account for more than 15 percent of diaspora demand for African capital markets, while investment interest in African infrastructure and property continues to increase.
Major developments, including the Dangote Refinery IPO, which is projected at $50 billion, have also contributed to growing attention around investment opportunities on the continent.
The Awards are expected to showcase property developments and projects while highlighting standards in areas such as sustainability and innovation.
United Kingdom
The United Kingdom remains an important market for African diaspora investment, with London serving as a major hub for investors with links to the continent.
The release cited remittances to Ghana reaching $8 billion in 2024 as an indication of the financial connection between the UK diaspora and African markets.
Through its expansion into the UK, the Awards will highlight property projects that meet international standards, with sustainability and innovation identified as key areas of interest.
Canada
Canada’s focus on green building and sustainable development also presents opportunities for greater links with Africa’s property sector.
The Canadian green building sector contributes $81 billion to the country’s GDP and supports more than 500,000 jobs, while green-building certification is increasingly regarded as an important consideration for institutional investors.
Africa’s housing deficit, including Ghana’s estimated shortfall of 1.8 million housing units, has also been identified as an area with potential for residential development.
The Awards’ Canadian expansion will therefore focus attention on sustainable housing and community-oriented developments.
Caribbean
The Caribbean is another region being targeted as part of the Awards’ international expansion, with diaspora remittances playing a role in property investment links between the Caribbean and Africa.
The release estimates that one in four transfers are directed towards African property, amounting to nearly $25 billion annually.
These investments are reportedly contributing to the development of gated communities and lifestyle projects in cities including Accra, Abidjan and Dakar.
The expansion is expected to appeal to Caribbean investors and potential relocators interested in property opportunities across Africa.
The African Property Awards focus on areas including innovation, sustainability and excellence in real estate development.
Their expansion into the US, UK, Canada and the Caribbean is aimed at increasing international awareness of developments across Africa and strengthening connections between the continent’s property sector and global investors.
The initiative comes at a time when urbanisation, diaspora investment and sustainable development are contributing to increased activity across Africa’s real estate market.
The Awards said the expansion would help connect Africa’s property achievements with international audiences while positioning the continent’s real estate sector within the wider global property market.
