Ghanaian freelance broadcast journalist Nabil Ahmed Rufai has been named one of 10 finalists in Ghana for the 2026 UK Media Excellence for Emerging Technologies (UK MEET) Fellowship, earning him the opportunity to continue his training at Imperial College London in the United Kingdom.

Rufai contributes to the EIB Network’s GHOne TV and international media outlets, including PBS NewsHour, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, TRT World, CGTN Africa and Radio New Zealand.

He has reported extensively on science and technology, climate change, and environmental issues, with a particular interest in stories that connect policy decisions to their impact on people’s lives.

The UK MEET Fellowship comes at a time when journalists are navigating a rapidly evolving media landscape shaped by scientific advances, artificial intelligence, digital technologies, new storytelling formats and growing demands for accurate, public-interest reporting.

The programme is designed to help journalists report more accurately and effectively on science, technology and emerging innovations.

Commenting on his selection as one of the 10 finalists, Rufai said the fellowship would help him strengthen his ability to scrutinise scientific developments and hold key stakeholders accountable.

“I hope to gain practical skills to interrogate scientific evidence, ask more informed questions, and hold innovators and policymakers accountable for the promises they make. I want to use this knowledge to produce more compelling, evidence-based stories that go beyond the technology itself to examine its real-world impact, the opportunities it creates, and the people who risk being left behind,” he said.

Rufai is a four-time recipient of Ghana’s National Journalism Award. In 2019, he was named Best Journalist for Sustainable Development Goals reporting by the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA).

His selection for the UK MEET Fellowship marks another milestone in his journalism career and presents an opportunity to strengthen his reporting on science, technology and their implications for Ghana and the wider African continent.
