Agyemang wins 100 metres race at Sports Festival
Kumasi, June 25, GNA - Clement Agyemang of Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) clocked 10.5 seconds to win the 100 metres race when the athletics competition got underway at the on-going National Sports Festival in Kumasi on Thursday.
Greater Accra's Laryea Akrong-Alla followed at the second position in a time of 10.6 seconds and Kwaku Nimako also of Greater Accra Region came third in a time of 10.7 seconds. Iddrisu Bawa also of CEPS won the 1,500 metres race in a time of three minutes 57.0 seconds with Anthony Yin of the Western Region coming second in a time of three minutes 59.1 seconds and Prosper Agage of Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) coming third in four minutes 00.9 seconds.
Bawa Fuseini of Prisons Service ran a good race to win the men's 400 metres race in a time of 47.3 seconds with Daniel Mensah of Immigration Service following in second position in a time of 47.4 seconds while Bright Dzokoto of CEPS placed third in 48.0 seconds. Shaibu Ahmed of Police Service won the 5,000 metres in a time of 15 minutes 05.0 seconds followed by Anthony Yin of the Western Region in a time of 15 minutes 09.7 seconds with Roland Tetteh of the Volta Region placing third in 15 minutes 15.2 seconds.
The Javelin event was won by Richard Agyemang of CEPS with a throw of 59.6 metres with Baryeh Ibrahim of GUSA following at the second position with a throw of 51.80 metres while George Bonyan of Police Service came third in a throw of 48.98 metres. Emmanuel Ofori-Asante of GUSA won the Shot Putt event with a throw of 15.61 metres followed by Gerald Cudjoe of CEPS with a throw of 14.81 metres and Niikoi Hammond of Greater Accra Region placing third with a throw of 12.65 metres.
John Defeatsror of GUSA leaped 15.23 metres to win the triple jump event with Fuseini Osmanu of Greater Accra Region leaping 15.19 metres to place second followed by Francis Lokko of Greater Accra Region who placed third with a leap of 14.77 metres. In the Women's sector, Gifty Addy of Immigration Service won the 100 metres race in a time of 11.8 seconds closely followed at the second position by Ayisha Pinamang of Ashanti Region in a time of 12.0 seconds with Mercy Tabiri of Greater Accra Region taking the third place in a time of 12.01 seconds.
Faustina Yankson of Central Region won the 1,500 race with a time of four minutes 53.9 seconds with Laar Nampiim of Northern Region coming second with a time of four minutes 55.2 seconds while Juliana Amo-Boadu of Ashanti Region placed third in a time of four minutes 55.9 seconds. Elizabeth Amolofo of Ashanti Region won the 400 metres race in a time of 57.7 seconds while Abigail Nsiah of Ashanti Region came second in a time of 58.6 seconds and Cynthia Donkoh of Central Region placed third in a time of 59.3 seconds.
Prisons Service Samry Abbey won the women's triple jump with a leap of 11.43 metres followed by her counterpart, Evelyn Harvey in second position with a leap of 10.65 metres. The 5,000 metres event was won by Gladys Adomah of Prisons Service in a time of 18 minutes 46.7 seconds followed by Winnifred Adoko of Central Region in a time of 18 minutes 47.2 seconds with Josephine Kwakye of Eastern Region placing third in a time of 19 minutes 02.1 seconds.
