THE CONFEDERATION of African Athletics (CAA) has selected its team to represent the continent at the 10th IAAF World Cup Championship, from September 16 to 17, 2006, in Athens, Greece, reports Isaac Franklin.
Ghana?s Ignisious Gaisah, Eric Nkansah, Vida Anim, as well as Esther Dankwa have been chosen to play major roles, in Africa?s quest for glories at the World Cup.
Africa is the defending men?s team champion from 2002
African champion, Olusoji Fasuba of Nigeria will challenge the bests in the world for the 100m title, while compatriot and 2002 winner Uchenna Emedolu battles it out in the 200m event.
Kenya?s Alex Kipchirchir, who won individual medal, alongside Vida Anim, at the just-ended Africa Senior Athletics Championships in Mauritius, has also been named in the team.
World 5000m record-holder, Tirunesh Dibaba, from Ethiopia, Commonwealth Games champions Louis Van Zyl (400m Hurdles) and Kenya?s Janeth Jepkosgei (800m) are all on the team.
