GUSA games: Legon are athletics champions

Cape Coast, Jan. 29, GNA - University of Ghana on Tuesday emerged the overall champions of the athletics competition of the 18th GUSA games being hosted by University of Cape Coast (UCC). They bagged 27 medals comprising 18 gold, two silver, and seven bronze.

Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) who took the second position collected 26 medals consisting six gold, 13 silver and seven bronzes.

UCC placed third with 25 medals made up of four gold, 12 silver and nine bronzes.

The University of Education, Winneba was fourth with three gold, two silver, and six bronze while University for Development Studies came Fifth with one gold three silver and two bronze.

One record was broken in the athletic competition in the women division when the University of Ghana shattered the four by 400 metres race in three minutes 21.05 seconds against the previous record of three minutes 22. 35 seconds set by KNUST.
Officials of the participating Universities presented prizes and certificates to deserving athletes.
