Ghana athletics has received a major boost with the securing of the first ever international championship level timing and measuring system.

The device was secured through a joint collaboration between the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC).

According to a release issued by the GOC copied to GNA Sports, the system will be used for the first time during the impending Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) Games scheduled for 16-22 June in Accra.

It consists of four electronic display boards for running and field events, International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) compliant wireless/wired race start and false start detecting systems, three ultrasonic wind gauges for running events and horizontal jumps, six net-book computers for field and running event terminals and one laser distance measurement device for throwing events.

The acquisition also puts Ghana in a good position to host international events at regional and continental levels; the statement added.

Meanwhile, an official from the manufacturers, Finish Lynx Developers based in Boston-United States, is expected soon in the country to assist with training and initial supervision of the competition events.**
