Hannah Wins Energizer JUvenile Walk

A class five (5) pupil of the Mensah Sarbah School in Cape Coast has won a maiden edition of National Juvenile walk which covered a distance of five kilometers. The event took place at the Central regional capital of Cape Coast over the weekend. Hannah Aidoo walked pass over one hundred and fifty(150) selected walkers all over the country to clinch the enviable prize which were at stake with a time of 30:36.8sec.She was followed closely by Veronica Acquah and Wilhelmina Essel all of the Mensah Sarber school whiles Vivian Thompson of Saint Michael?s school took the fourth position.

In the boy?s division, Francis Acheampog and Bernard Thompson both of the Amanful Catholic School in Cape Coast took the first and second positions respectively with Samuel Burns of the Adventist Preparatory taking the third position.

In the other open category, the following distinguished themselves: Samuel Appiah, Simon Otoo and, Enoch Dadzie all of Cape Coast. The youngest competitor in the event was aged eight years in the person of Prince Ayensu from Amanful Catholic Boys School. Most of the competitors were mostly drawn from the following schools: Amanful Catholic School, St.Michael School, Bakatsir Methodist JSS, Adventiost Preparatory School, Oxford Preparatory School, and Mensah Sarber School etc.

In a solemn but impressive ceremony to honor the young walkers for their efforts, all participants were rewarded with pens and exercise books. Those who performed creditably were rewarded with sch ool bags, walking shoes, towels and rulers. The walk was sponsored by Energizer, Paleys Biscuit, Savoy Hotel, Biriwa Beach Hotel and walkers of the United States of America.

Mr. Richard Akoto, the secretary of the Visco Walking Club, thanked the sponsors for their unfailing support to walking as a sport. He further congratulated the budding walkers for the impressive performance they exhibited in the competition and advised that they should carry the same spirit to their academic work
