Accra, Jan. 11, GNA - National Sports For All Association-Ghana (NASFAAG) has launched Six km Walk dubbed "Dow Live Earth" aimed at saving water and creating awareness of global water shortages. With the launch, NASFAAG will be representing Ghana in an international event to be held on Sunday, April 18, 2010 simultaneously in 39 cities across the world.

Mr John Aduakwa, Chairman of NASFAAG who launched the event at the Trinity United Church, (TUC) in Accra on Sunday said because the church plays a lead role in keep-fit activities it was found necessary to organise the Walk to encourage members to participate in the six-km exercise that would take place over 24-hours in countries around the world. He said the event was also to enhance water education activities aimed at igniting a tipping point to help in solving the global water crisis. "This is the largest global fundraising 6km walk for saving water. The average distance many women and children walk every day to fetch water in some countries" he said.

Mr Aduakwa explained that the 'Dow Live Earth' Walk would commence at 06h00 GMT from the Independence Square in Accra where over 5,000 participants are expected to unite together as part of the global effort to solve the critical issue affecting nearly one-eighth of the world's population.

He said the Walk would feature concerts, run and walks as well as water education activities, awareness creation and fund raising activities to help solve water crisis.

The Chairman added that the event will serve as a catalyst to rally the world community around the critical issue of water scarcity and to empower citizens to be part of the solution. He called on members of the public to register and be part of the event.

NASFAAG also used the opportunity to launch its second edition of Sports For All Magazine and presented a Model Club Certificate to the TUC Keep-Fit Club.

The Certificate was presented by Madam Gloria Commodore, Treasurer and National Women's Organizer of the NASFAAG. Meanwhile, NASFAAG said it would in the coming weeks visit other churches including Action Chapel International and the Word Miracle Church International to launch the event to rally support and raise funds to support the event. 11 Jan. 10
