Ghanaian International Athlete, Eric Nkansah has expressed regret about the rate of development of athletics in the country. He has therefore called on educational institutions and security agencies to make it an integral part of their programmes.

Speaking to Space FM on Wednesday in Sunyani, the ex- prisons officer recalled the days when national sports festivals for schools and colleges attracted a lot of attention. He said it is about time more funding was provided if the nation wants to achieve international laurels in athletics.

Recalling the events of Athens 2004 Olympic Games, Nkansah said the country could have won medals if adequate preparation had been made. ?The very 4*100m Nigerian relay team we beat in Abuja all African Games won a medal in Athens?, he wondered.

He described as absurd and ridiculous impression by some Ghanaians that the Athletes feigned injuries during the Olympic Games.

It would be recalled that Nkansah did not compete for Ghana in the 4*100m relay at the Olympic Games as a result of hamstring injury. He has since recovered and started training in preparation for the World Indoor Games and Athletics Championship.
