Oguaa Hall - champions of Inter-hall athletics

Cape Coast, Nov. 1, GNA - Oguaa Hall dominated the Inter-Halls athletics competition in which three records were broken in the 39th edition of the Inter-Halls athletics competition of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) which opened at the university's sports field on Tuesday.

The Hall went ahead to lift the championship trophy when they bagged 112.5 points followed by Casely-Hayford (Casford) Hall at second position with 91.5 points, Valco Hall placed third with 61.5 points, Kwame Nkrumah Hall came fourth with 58.5 points with Atlantic Hall placing fifth with 44.2 points.


In the Women's division, Adehye Hall came first with 75 points followed by Oguaa Hall at the second position with 74 points, Kwame Nkrumah Hall came third with 71 points, Valco Hall placed fourth with 62 points and Atlantic Hall were fifth with 41 points.


Mathew Boateng of Atlantic Hall bettered his 800 metres record in 1 minute 55 seconds to be his previous record of 1 minute 56 seconds, which he set in 2006.

Boateng also led his Hall's relay quartet team to break the 4x400 metres race record in 3 minutes 32.4 secs to erase the old time of 3 minutes 34.90secs also set by Oguaa Hall in 1994, while Edwina Nanevie also of Oguaa Hall broke her 200 metres own record in 26m.42secs to better her previous record of 28.80secs set in 2004. Boateng was declared the best athlete in the men's division while Edwina Nanevie was also declared the best athlete in the women's division for record a new time in the 200 metres race and placing second in 4x100 metres and 4x400 metres races.


Dr D.A. Asamoah, Chairman of the University's Sports Education Committee of UCC who presided, expressed gratitude to all those who contributed in ensuring the success of the competition and commended the athletes for their splendid performance and sportsmanship. 01 Nov. 07
