Koforidua, March 17, GNA - Fatimatu Kumasa of New Juaben Secondary Commercial School (NJUASCO) was the toast of her school when she set a new record in the Girls 100 metres race at the 20th Annual Koforidua Zone Second Cycle Schools Athletics Competition which ended at Koforidua on Friday. The budding athlete won the race with a new time of 13.12 seconds to erase the old record of 13.28 seconds set by Theresa Comson of Ghana Secondary School (GHANASS) in 2002.
Fatimatu last year equalled Comson's time and went ahead to achieve her feat this year at the competition. She also won the Girls 200 metres race and led her School to win the 100 by 4 metres relay race to be adjudged the best female athlete of the games and was presented with 200,000 cedis from the Zonal Athletics Association and additional 500,000 cedis cash from the New Juaben Municipal Assembly.
Similar cash award was also given to Abdul Rauf of Pope John Secondary School (POJOSS) for also emerging as the best male athlete by winning the boys 100 metres and 200metres races. In the Boys division, POJOSS came first with 123 points followed by Koforidua Secondary Technical School (SECTECH) at second position with 106.5 points with NJUASCO coming third with 95.5 points. GHANASS won the Girls division with 88 points with Pentecost Secondary School (PENSEC) placing second with 85 points and SECTECH third with 84 points.
