GAA agrees in principle to send all qualifiers to World Champs

As part of the ongoing collaboration between the Ghana Athletes Association (the association of track and field athletes), the Ghana Athletics Association (the national federation), and the National Sports Council, an agreement has been reached by the three parties on a plan to ensure that all qualified athletes are able to participate in the upcoming 2003 World Championships in Paris.

Initially, the national federation had announced that Ghana will be represented by seven athletes, based on the allocation of only that number of tickets to Ghana by the international governing body of track and field, the International Association of Athletic Federations (IAAF).

However, the athletes association that has always advocated that the best Ghana has should represent the nation, made a proposal to the NSC and the national federation about a financial plan that will enhance the opportunity for all deserving athletes to compete in Paris. Currently, nine Ghanaian athletes have qualified as per the IAAF criteria, although a more rigorous set of criterion for selection recommended by the athletes association (and endorsed by the national federation and the NSC) will kick in upon the selection deadline in a few weeks.
