Basketball: The 2003 League In The Books

Mon, 3 Nov 2003 Source: Pascal Atta-Fynn

The Greater Accra Basketball League ended this weekend with two matches between Fire Service and Police and Magic and After 7.

The first game between the security services was definitely more interesting. It was a close game until the final minutes when Fire managed to pull away winning 58 - 48.Police thus finished last on the league table. Interestingly, they are the only team out of the top four to average over 50 points a game.

In the second game, the veteran team AFTER 7 started with a strong first quarter (15 - 5) and never looked back until the final whistle. The game ended 50 - 41. AFTER 7 thus finished fourth on the league and qualify to play in the impending COWBELL TOP FOUR TOURNAMENT. Incidentally, COWBELL is AFTER 7's Kit Sponsors. In his closing remarks, Mr. Van Pee, representative of Tropic Oil Ghana Ltd., prize sponsors of the league congratulated the teams for their performances in the league and also the organizers.

The Braves of CEPS received the league trophy. Reformers and Yotive who came second and third respectively received cash prizes.
