German Jens Gailing is on a three month visit to the country to hold coaching clinics for young basketball players and officials, BASKETBALLghana.com can confirm.
Gailing, 20, will interact with players between ages 5-16 on the basic rudiment and rules of the game in the West African following massive interest of the sports.
He is expected to bring his rich experience to bear during his 12-weeks stay in the capital and take the budding talents through the various stages of the game in Accra, Cape Coast and Koforidua.
Gailing who hails from Ludwigsburg district in Baden Wuerttemberg started out as footballer until he turned 10 when his love and passion for basketball was noticed and therefore abandoned the foot and ladder game.
At age 12, he start playing in the school team, he won the district basketball championship with the school team in the year 2005 and 2006, which got him promoted to the famous BG Tamm / Bietigheim club and enjoyed an incredible five-year stints with them.
He later worked as a coach in the club with direct supervision on the under-12 and under 14- team.
He was part of the Under-20 team of BSG Ludwigsburg that got to the semi-finals of an international basketball tournament in Austria, Vienna. Brimming with so much enthusiasm and desire to impact knowledge on the young ones, Gailing expressed his delight on his first visit to the West African country.
‘I am very happy to be here and I look forward to a nice time out with the kids and hopefully they can learn from the exercise to develop their talents’. Gailing said.
‘Ghana is a beautiful place and the warm reception that I have received is worth mentioning. I can imagine my three months stay in this country will be worthwhile’.
He holds a license C coaching certificate and the youngster will assess at first hand the level of development and promotion of the game in Ghana.
His arrival has been facilitated by Rite Multimedia-leaders in basketball development and promotion in Ghana.
