Accra, March 31, GNA - As part of the 57th Hall Week celebrations of Legon Hall, University of Ghana, the students and lecturers were entertained to an exciting basketball competition. The competition, which was highly patronized saw the competitors made up of Akuafo, Legon, Sarbah and Commonwealth (Vandals), Halls as well as Evandy, Bani and International Students Hostels (ISH) putting up a show of expertise, passion and skills to crown the day. The event which was staged by Rite Multimedia, an event management company widely known for basketball development and promotion in Ghana was sponsored by LOYA MILK and INDOMIE NOODLES.

The four traditional Halls and three Hostels challenged each other in search of the ultimate cash prize, a trophy, and products from the sponsors, amidst singing and dancing as the atmosphere and vicinity was charged with excitement. The competition started in the Boys division with a titanic clash between Legon Hall and Commonwealth Hall with the host team who had a bumpy start recovering quickly in a remarkable fashion to stun the spectators with their well rehearsed performance skills as they banged in the goals to chalk a 22-12 victory. Other results of the group matches were: Akuafo Hall beat Bani Hostel 24-14, Evandy Hostel lost 16-19 to Sarbah Hall, ISH were spanked 2-17 by the Vandals while Legon Hall drew 10-10 against ISH. In the first semi-final match, Akuafo Hall failed to put the smiles on the faces of their supporters when they were outplayed and outscored by the red shirted Vandals team to book their tickets to the finals with a score of 11 - 8.

The highly tipped favourite of the competition, Legon Hall again survived a scare from their arch-rivals Sarbah Hall to triumph narrowly with a 17 - 16 win.

The stage from then was set for the final match between Legon Hall and the Vandals (Commonwealth Hall) in which the Vandals were bent on redeeming their image by seeking a revenge to their first defeat. Legon Hall again proved their dominance over Commonwealth Hall (Vandals) by defeating them for the second time with a 6-3 score to lift the ultimate trophy, cash prize and several products from the sponsors which turned out to be a 'Host and Win' affair for Legon Hall. A curtain raiser was played between the University of Ghana Ladies A and B teams in honour of a departed colleague, Miss Audrey Kudawo, the captain of the University of Ghana Ladies team with a minute's silence observed in her honour before the match commenced with Team A (Red) defeating Team B (Blue) 19 - 6.

The various teams expressed their appreciation to Rite Multimedia for organizing the basketball competition and called for more of such events to foster Inter-Halls relationships. 31 March 09
