Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) don activate national cholera emergency operation center.

NCDC say dem make di declaration afta sabi pipo on mata wey concern cholera do one ogbonge risk assessment on top di Cholera situation for Nigeria last week.

Di centre say based on di assessment na im make dem activate di National Cholera Multi-Sectoral Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) for di FCT and all di states for Nigeria.

Dis decision to activate di cholera emergency centres di NCDC say, na to show di gravity of di outbreak and to reduce di impact of di disease.

Di work of di EOC na to give support for di states wey di disease dey worry to make sure say dem send dem di resources wey dem need including, surveillance, diagnostic capacity and capabilities, training and intensify public awareness and community engagement activities.

But bifor NCDC activate EOC, e say dem bin don first do some ground work like distribution of medical supplies for case management, infection prevention, and control, laboratory diagnosis, for all di states,

Through di National Cholera Technical Worming Group, dem don provide offsite/onsite support to states like Lagos and Ogun wey don report some of di biggest numbers.

Even now, dem say dem dey do training for Laboratory Scientists on how to collect and analyse samples. Training dey also go on for community mobilizers on cholera key messages.

Dem dey also do distribution of jingles, Flyers, and posters wey contain key messages on cholera prevention to all states and Federal Capital Territory.

Cholera outbreak for Nigeria

Cholera na common and seasonal disease for Nigeria, e dey occur evri year mostly during di rainy season for areas wit poor sanitation.

Tori be say di first series of cholera outbreaks for Nigeria happun between 1970 and 1990.

Major epidemics also occur for 1992, 1995-1996, and 1997.

Between January and October 2010, di federal ministry of health bin report 37,289 cases and 1,434 deaths.

While for 2011 na total of 22,797 cases of cholera wit 728 deaths and case-fatality rate of 3.2% dem bin record .

NCDC also bin record 42,466 suspected cases including 830 deaths from 20 out of di 36 states from di beginning of 2018 to October 2018.

How to avoid cholera
