Di Minister of Women Affairs for Nigeria Mrs Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye tok am for interview wit BBC Pidgin.

She add say since she enta office for August 2023, dis na one of di issues wey she don deal wit and she dey tell Nigerians say make anybody wey dey face dis kain issue "shout well well".

Di Minister of Women Affairs wey be lawyer too tok say dis mata dey difficult to fight sake of say sometimes, di same pipo go allegedly threaten di woman wey dem beat to withdraw di case, di woman too go begin beg make dem release her husband make dem no carry am go court.

"If I hear am again I go put di man behind bars, I go carry di mata go court, I go join di woman wey dey beg for her husband as accomplice for negligence.

I dey also get a lot of wahala wit police, but di Inspector General of Police no dey joke wit any mata I carry come.”

Although, she also tok about di challenge with some police officers to handle cases well well.

Pesin carry knife wey don hot well well put am for one girl private part, dem just scata dis girl, evritin wey dis girl carry be woman don burn, but police wey dem direct us to come dey feel sorry for di woman not di child, next time I go carry dat kain policeman go court.” She add.

'Any man wey woman fit beat di woman go kill you’

Na be only womwn and children dey suffer domestic violence. Mrs Ohanenye say even though she neva get any official complain from any man say im wife, mama, girlfirend or sister dey beat or abuse am, any man wey e dey happun to make di man run!

“I no go support any woman make she go beat her man but if man know say im no get power and woman go beat am na disgrace be dat, e beta make you go your way comot from di marriage, any man wey woman fit beat di woman go kill you, run!".

She explin say if anyman bring dat kain complain she go parade di woman and chook leg for di mata too.

'Challenges dey but dem no big pass me'

Di minister wey don spend almost seven months for office say di journey no easy at all.

"Di journey bin be like say I no go fit do am sake of how di kontri bin dey wen dis goment enta, evritin just dey jagagaja, notin dey happun pipo dey suffer and angry.

A hungry man na angry man, di one wey dey do female genital mutilation (female circumcision) just dey cut children anyhow, di one we dey do iron pressing just carry iron dey scata children breasts, some of dem dey get cancer, so many tins wey bin dey happun. Challenges dey but e no big pass me.”

She say wen she enta office, her biggest issue na to change from di past and to change am mean say she go get plenti enemies and fight plenti pipo.

She tell BBC pidgin say she don cover almost 70% of her plan as minister of Women mata and only 30% remain.

Women participation for politics

Madam Uju-Kennedy Ohanenye na di first woman for di ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) to contest for presidency, even though she later step down for President Bola Tinubu during di party primaries for 2022.

She dey encourage more women to participate for politics. According to her, na hunger and lack of money dey make most women no fit join politics actively.

"Pesin wey neva chop no go fit carry money buy form, na 30 million I buy form for presidency, how many pipo go fit afford am?”

Money and empowerment na di main tin women need to join politics actively and she say her own mantra na to empower women wit skills and equipment wey go bring money for dem.

She expalin say even as she come back from di International women's day conference for United Sates of America for March, 2024, na empowerment of woman she carry come and dat empowerment don already start and results go begin show within six months.
