Body builders in a battle of the 'Gladiators'

Accra, Oct. 4, GNA - The Ghana Bodybuilding Association [GBBA] will in collaboration with the Ghana Muscleflavour Amateur Bodybuilding Association [GMABA] engage in a body building championship aimed at selecting body builders for national assignments.

The championship fixed for November 23, at the Osu Presbyterian Hall is dubbed "The Battle of the Gladiators, Health and Fitness Important for Building a Nation".


The event seeks to bring together the nation's topmost bodybuilders to compete for honours and prove as to who is who in the sport. Abdul-Hayye Yartey, President of the GBBA told the GNA Sports that this year's event has a lot attractive packages for outstanding performers, adding that the association has gone the extra mile to ensure a successful championship.


According to the President, the championship would be preceded by two competitions slated for the northern and southern sectors of the country.


He said the competition is to select body builders for the main championship from the two zones of the country. According to the arrangement, the southern sector will comprise of body builders from the Greater Accra, Central, Western and Eastern Regions.


The competition will take place at the Abusua Restaurant in Accra on the 6th of October 2007 at 10am.

The Northern sector will comprise Ashanti, Northern, Upper West, Upper East and Brong Ahafo Regions to be hosted in Kumasi on October 20. According to the GBBA, interested competitors are to be at the Abusua Restaurant - Osu this Saturday for the southern sector qualification.


Contestants are expected to pay a registration fee of GHC 10.


Mr Yartey said with the exception of seven body builders who are currently members of the national team - the Black Muscle, all other body builders are expected to justify their roles and status. Among the sponsors of the event are Maximum Gym, Abusua Restaurant, Allahu Akbar Furniture Shop - Kasoa, MegaForce Security, and Capital 02 with support from the National Sports Council.


Mr Yartey appealed to individuals and organizations to assist the Association in the form of sponsorship either in cash or in any kind to develop the sport in the country.
