Secretary-General of the World Armwrestling Federation, Mircea Simionescu-Simicel has mentioned that the just ended Africa Armwrestling Championship in Ghana was the best event he had attended in recent times and can be compared to a Mini-World Championships.

He said the promotion, organisation, setup, coordination and even performance of the athletes can pass for a World standard event. He admitted that with his experience travelling around the world, Accra Is clean, the people are nice and the hospitality is incomparable.

Ghana hosted the ninth edition of the Africa Armwrestling Championship with Mircea as a special guest and head of the technical department of the event.

Giving his accounts of the Championship which was dubbed ‘ACCRA 2018’, to www.armwrestlingghana.com, the overwhelmed WAF Scribe expressed his delight and appreciation to the President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) for the kind of hospitality received since he arrived in the country.

He said the kind of support armwrestling was receiving in the country was commendable and noted that if the trend continues, Ghana armwrestling would take over the world.

Mircea assured the armwrestling family in Ghana of his continuous support for the development and growth of the sport both in the country and the continent as a whole.

“The development of Armwrestling in Ghana is growing really fast which I haven’t seen in the last five years.

“Organizing an event like armwrestling needs a lot of courage, motivation and perseverance, which I know would put Ghana on the map of World Armwrestling.

“Armwrestling is a very easy sports to play which has a very huge potentials because people can understand it very well either you lose or win.

“Armwrestling is a very attractive sports which can be played by all age groups either young or old no matter the gender” he said.

During his stay in the country, he paid courtesy call on Ghana’s Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah; the Acting Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Majeed Bawah, the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Ben Nunoo Mensah and was hosted to a post-championship cocktail by the Mayor of Accra.

He also toured some of Ghana’s historic sites and tourist areas in the capital city.
