U-15 cricket team wins silver in West African tourney

Accra, Dec. 21, GNA - The National U-15 Cricket team won silver at t= he just ended International Cricket Council (ICC) North West Regional Youth tournament held in Ibadan, Nigeria.

The team won four of the five matches played, losing only to the eventual champions, Sierra Leone to finish on eight points, two points adrift of the winners for the tourney held from 11-15 December, 2010. A statement signed by Francis Asare, acting General Secretary of the Ghana Cricket Association copied to GNA Sports said the team made an impressive 1030 runs and 147.2 overs in total, which kept them above their rivals Nigeria who placed third with a total of six points.


Asare said the team also produced brilliant individual performances picking the Man of the Match awards in some of the games notably, Baleeri Frank (Ghana vs Morocco), Ateak Vincent (Ghana vs Cameroon), Ananya Gabriel (Gambia vs Ghana) and Ateak Clement (Ghana vs Nigeria). The fourth, fifth and sixth positions went to Cameroon, Gambia and Morocco respectively.

The team has since returned and will pay a courtesy call on the the Chief Executive Officer of the National Sports Council on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
