AGPI delegation participate in conference on racism at the European Parliament

A two member delegation of the Association of Ghanaian Professionals in Ireland (AGPI) led by the Programme Director, Mrs Belinda Agyapong has participated in an international conference on racism at the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium.

The conference which was part of the project ‘Where the rivers meet’ was co-sponsored by the fundamental Rights and Citizenship Programme of the European Commission and aims to help combat racism and xenophobia against migrant women living in Europe. The one day well organised conference was attended by representatives of partner organisations from Spain, Austria and Italy as well as delegates from several member states of the European Union. The conference was addressed by several high profile personalities including; D. Jorge Cabré Rico, Regional Minister for Justice and Social Welfare of the Valencia Region, Ms. Zuzana Dorazilova, Representative of the Director General, Fundamental Rights and Union Citizenship and Ms. Graziana Galati, European Regional and Local Authorities on Asylum and Immigration? ERLAI Network coordinator.


Addressing the conference, Mrs Agyapong outlined the steps involved in the implementation of ‘Where the rivers meet’ in Ireland and the impact of the project in terms of helping to combat racism and xenophobia against migrant women in Ireland. She also touched on the benefits of the project for the women participants in Ireland and expressed the hope that the project could be continued in all countries. The delegation has since returned back to Ireland.
