Mr. Michael Asiedu was also the Past Supreme Knight of the Noble Order of Knights of Marshall and a Retired Educationist. His death occurred on Sunday, December 17, 2006, at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, Ghana after a short illness. He was 79 years old.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mrs. Victoria Asiedu (alias, Victoria Bruce), Proprietor of Early Starters Crèche, Labone, Accra, and 6 children. Mrs. Paulina Asiedu-Frimong, Proprietor of All Care Crèche, East Legon, Accra ,Ghana, Mrs. Joyce Timpo of Chicago, USA (wife of Mr. Clement Timpo, former President of the Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago), Mr. Alex Asiedu of the Ghana Cocoa Board, Accra, Ghana, Mrs. Lynda Odro of Metropolitan Insurance Company, Accra, Ghana, Ms. Evelyn Nana Araba Asiedu of the Ghana Telecom, Headquarter, Accra, Ghana, and Mr. Anthony Asiedu , Assistant Proprietor, Early Starters, Crèche, Accra, Ghana. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, a sister, Ms. Elizabeth Asiedu, a retired principal superintendent, GES, Takoradi, Ghana, 19 nieces and nephews.

Mr. Michael Asiedu was born on 6th September 1927. He served in the ministry of education and then Ghana Educational Service for some 27 years. He was appointed chief inspector of schools in 1971 and was promoted to the rank of deputy director general of the Ghana educational service in September 1979. He then became acting director for 7 months in 1980-1981. Between 1981-1983 he was principal secretary of the ministry of transportation and communication and chief director of the Ghana ministry of youth and sports from 1981-1983.

He served in the West African examination council as a representation of the ministry of education for many years and was Ghana’s chief spokesman on education at UNESCO general conference from 1966-1980. He has written four children’s books which are widely used in Ghanaian first cycle schools. Mr. Michael Asiedu visited the United States on a number of occasions. On this last visit in 2003 to Chicago he met and counseled the local chiefs on chieftaincy and the Ghanaian traditional issues, and also attended the 2003 Ghanafest.
